While he acknowledges that art alone cannot enact societal change, he believes it can inspire new ways of thinking and foster collective imagination, by blending historical inquiry with creative expression.
In this exhibition, the artist presents three of his most iconic works, such as, “The Lost Monument”, “Nemesis, Variations of a Myth” and “The Precarious Archive,” a site-specific installation, which was first shown at Documenta 14, in Kassel. Despite being three distinct works, they are deeply interwoven through their critical engagement with the construction, deconstruction, and precariousness of historical
narratives. Each project interrogates the mechanisms by which collective memory is shaped, contested, and mediated, employing a sophisticated interplay of archival material, mythology, and fictionalized elements to destabilize dominant historical discourses. Tsivopoulos, works embrace ambiguity, multiplicity, and irony, eschewing closure and resolution. By collapsing boundaries between fact and fiction, past and present, his practice invites viewers into a liminal space where history is not fixed but deconstructed and reimagined in new ways.
Born in Prague in 1973 to an Iranian mother and Greek father, he grew up in Greece before pursuing his art studies in Athens and Amsterdam. He currently lives and works between Athens, Amsterdam, and New York. His diverse background and experiences have significantly influenced his artistic practice, which encompasses film, video, photography, and installation.
His work has been exhibited extensively in some of the most prestigious museums and galleries around the world, including Tate Modern, London; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin; MAXXI, Rome; MACBA, Barcelona; High Line Art, New York; Samsung Museum of Art, Seoul; SALT, Istanbul; MuCEM, Marseille; MUKHA, Antwerp; Kunsthaus Zurich; Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens.
His films and video installations have been showcased in several major periodical exhibitions and biennials, including Documenta 14, Kassel; Venice Biennale 55; Manifesta 8, Murcia; and CAFAM Biennial 2, Beijing, among others.
His numerous awards include the Mondriaan Foundation Production Award; the Golden Cube Award, where he won the award for best video installation at the 25th Documentary Festival in Kassel. He was also shortlisted for the 7th edition of the Future of Europe Award, Leipzig, and the DESTE Foundation Award, Athens.
Tsivopoulos is a core faculty member at the Piet Zwart Institute Rotterdam and adjunct faculty at The New School—Parsons, New York.
He is the founder and co-director of Artists for Artists, an online pedagogical non-profit organization that works with leading international artists and early-career artists from the Global South.[/vc_column_text][vc_text_separator title=”EXPO-VIEW”][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”8550,8551,8552,8553,8554,8555,8556,8557,8558,8560,8561,8562,8563,8564,8565,8566,8567,8568,8559″][vc_text_separator title=”Opening “][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”8570,8571,8572,8573,8574,8575,8576,8578,8579,8580,8581,8582,8583,8584,8585,8586,8587,8588,8589,8590,8591″][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”EXHIBITIONS”][vc_single_image image=”8542″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][vc_separator][vc_column_text] ARKIVI I BRISHTË / THE PRECIARIOUS ARCHIVE Artist: Stefanos Tsivopoulos Kuruar nga / Curated by: Helidon Gjergji Dizenjuar nga / Designed by: Nikola Senjo COD, February 2025, EXHIBITIONS (AL) “Ne nuk mbajmë mend, ne e rishkruajmë kujtesën po

["post-8540","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
